Many Events Can Cause Long-Lasting Emotional Wounds

Less Severe Childhood Causes

Less severe events (little ‘t’ traumas) can cause long-lasting emotional wounds when they occur over an extended time, during periods of stress, when there is little social support or at particularly sensitive times during a child’s development.

Less severe childhood causes include:

n   Frequent moves

n   Chronic family arguments

n   Prolonged separations (over 1 month) from a parent

n   A parent favoring one child over another

n   Shaming and humiliating experiences

n   Severe teasing/bullying
